Hilton Global Automated Upgrades Processing Time & Have You Received Any?

Hilton started to roll out Global Automated Upgrades precisely a year ago, and the program was made official in November (read more here).

We yesterday published a piece about Diamond upgrades in general, and a reader mentioned that they always get the upgrade email three days before the stays, and I decided to dig into this.

You can access Hilton Honors here.

I just went through the last 10 upgrade emails I have received from Hilton.

It appears that:

a) They have all come 3 days before (never earlier or never later)

and

b) They come roughly at 3 PM local time of the hotel

This confirms what Hilton told us in November: the upgrades would be processed three days before the scheduled check-in time. I am unsure if the check-in time at all these hotels is 3 PM or if that is when Hilton sends out the email.

Conclusion

These Global Automated Upgrades have generally worked well for me. I would say that I have received them for well more than half of my stays that I have booked a minimum of three days in advance (I sometimes book last-minute ones too).

Some Diamond members claim they never get upgraded when staying at Hilton-affiliated properties.

You have to look at the included and excluded brands for upgrades. You cannot expect to get much when staying at one of these select service ones such as Hampton Inn or Home2 Suites. Upgrades also work better at hotels outside of the United States.

I have been very satisfied with this rollout, and the upgrades will get even better late next year when I should reach lifetime Diamond with Honors (higher upgrade priority)
